Hydrogen Electrolysers

HYDROGEN GENERATION USING HYDROGEN ELECTROLYSERS
A major source of hydrogen is electrolysis of water using hydrogen electrolysers. Hydrogen electrolysers use electricity to split water into hydrogen and oxygen.

Hydrogen Electrolysers

HYDROGEN FILLING STATIONS:
There are 3 major types of electrolysers. The PEM electrolyser (Proton Exchange Membrane), Alkali Electrolyser and the solid oxide electrolyser.
The PEM electrolyser uses proton exchange membrane technology, PEM electrolysers are modular, scalable hydrogen generators optimized for clean hydrogen production. They are all supplied on a modular basis and are now being manufactured and supplied for hydrogen filling stations worldwide. They are ideal to pair with renewable and intermittent energy sources like solar and wind to produce green hydrogen at low cost.
The gas produced by all electrolysers contains trace oxygen and water. Anco Catalysts catalyst is used to remove the oxygen from the electrolyser gases. This is then followed with a dryer to remove the water. The oxygen is removed for safety reasons and for the purity of the hydrogen produced.

OXYGEN REMOVAL - DEOXIDISERS:
The hydrogen produced by an alkali electrolyser contains potassium hydroxide, water and oxygen. To prevent the Deoxidiser catalyst being coated with water the inlet temperature has to be heated to 70°C minimum. The PEM electrolyser gas only contains water and oxygen and only needs to be heated by 5°C to 10°C.

ANCO CATALYSTS RANGE OF CATALYSTS:
Anco Catalysts supplies 2 alternative types of catalyst for removal of oxygen. Catalyst type: Deoxidiser DS2 or an alternative DSL2 catalyst.
The DSL2 catalyst has a lower density and therefore requires less kilos of catalyst to fill the catalyst bed.
DSL2 is the cheaper version and is increasingly being used for this application.
